Teach For America Interview Questions

Teach for America interview questions can be difficult to prepare for because they are so varied.  TFA is known for its lengthy and in depth interviews.  Although it’s impossible to formulate a specific answer for all possible interview questions, there are certain things a candidate can do to better prepare him or herself.

The Teach for America interview process is always changing.  Certain interviewers may put greater weight on some types of questions than others.  However, an in depth research of questions asked in previous interviews will give you perspective on what type of questions TFA asks.  When I interview, I signed a form agreeing to not release specifics of my interview to other candidates.  However, a quick search of Glassdoor and other job websites pulls up numerous questions that other candidates have been asked.  The following are a few examples:

  • Which core value do you most closely align with and why?
  • Describe a time when you dropped the ball and how you handled it.
  • Describe a time when you did not agree with a superior and you managed to accomplish your end goal in spite of this disagreement.
  • How do you stay organized?
  • Describe an accomplishment that you are proud of and why.
  • What would make you quit?
  • What is your biggest weakness and how do you plan to improve it?
  • What did you think about issue _________ discussed in the online activity?
  • Have you ever missed a deadline? Why?
  • One of TFA's core values is Teamwork, can you please tell us how you work in a team?
  • Tell us about a time when you set a goal and didn't reach it. How did you recover?
  • When was a time you had to work with someone and had a difficult time?
  • If you don't want to stay in teaching forever, why do you want to complete this program?
  • Why Teach for America in particular?
  • What's the hardest class you've ever taken and why?
  • Why do you want to teach rather than some other medium to help children?
  • How do you stay organized?
